Defending Champions on Verge of Four-Game Winning Streak
Brennan Continues String of High-Impact Acquisitions
BEACON FALLS, Conn. — The Small-Town Americans, the defending champions of the Bobcats4Ever Fantasy Football League, were on the verge early Sunday evening of their fourth consecutive victory and move into the top two of the league standings.
The squad, which is 3-1 and in third place after four weeks of the season, held a hefty lead over Thanks Obama! after the day games Sunday and was a heavy favorite to earn the victory over the second-place team.
“We couldn’t wait until after the week was over to put out this statement,” Small-Town Americans owner Kyle Brennan said. “Here goes.”
The Small-Town Americans have benefited greatly from the free-agent acquisition of Atlanta running back Devonta Freeman, who has scored at least 29 points in his last three contests.
Brennan found Freeman on the wire just prior to Week 1 after he was cut by MII-LES … YOU SUCK! owner Jamie Palatini. The Small-Town Americans dropped then-cut Buffalo running back Fred Jackson to make room for Freeman, who started the season as Atlanta’s backup. Entering Week 5, Freeman was the seventh-highest scoring player in the league with 95.30 points. Only Houston wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, owned by Thanks Obama!, had a higher total among non-quarterbacks. No player has outscored Freeman since the start of Week 2.
“I’d just like to thank Jamie for the opportunity,” Brennan said. “I trust that an owner with his track record and football acumen made the right decision for his team and feels as though his roster is better now than it was then — and he surely can justify both points if asked. Our front office has great respect for that of MIII-LES … YOU SUCK! and I’m quite certain that feeling is reciprocated.”
The Small-Town Americans’ acquisition of Freeman, as well as a potential midseason sleeper in Jacksonville tight end Julius Thomas, is reminiscent of the team’s waiver-wire pickup of New York (N) wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. last season. The then-rookie was the league’s top player down the stretch and helped Brennan win his first title as an owner.
